There is somethihng truly magical in the relationshhip between humans and equines, and the foundation stone of equine-assisted therapy and therapeutic riding is this mysterious emotional and spiritual bond. In addition, medical studies show that the walking movement of the human is nearly identical to that of the horse, and that individuals who are unable to walk normally for various reasons--congenital diseases or paralyzing accidents, for instance--are able through riding to simulate the the walking movement and build up muscular strength and balance in a way that other therapies cannot provide.
At The Root Farm,  we offer our participants an intimate experience of the natural world that encourages non verbal communication, reciprocal affection, and personal growth.
At The Root Farm, horses and donkeys partner special needs children to help them reach for physical and psychological goals beyond their customary limitations. Physically, the movement of the equine improves balance and neuromotor function, muscle tone, and sensory processing. The farm and animals also offer the children a new sense of freedon, accomplishment, and control. Many dedicated volunteers assist a licensed therapist and therapeutic riding instructor with mounted and ground-based objectives for the children.
